Crime is directly proportional to the Money : More the money , more is the size of the crime and that has been true since centuries. Here is one great video
INTERESTING & SCARING from Marc Goodman.
Watch it with eyes open , And you 'll know that its not probably you who is playing with the computer but the computer who might be playing with you.
Do's & Dont's
1. Never buy/download any software unless you are completely sure that the software is genuine and not cracked or a demo software from a wild website. Always download demo software's from reputed websites. Use
McAfee's SiteAdvisor or
AVG LinkScanner to see whether the site is clean and has a digital repo.
Always keep your antivirus and operating system updated. Surf internet using a user account.
2. Never undress while your PC, laptop or tablet is on and connected to internet. You may find yourself becoming popular in a video floating on internet while someone is making money by selling your clips.
3. Ensure that your digital storage : whether email, pen-drive, laptop, tablet etc.; is secure from theft and hacking. Cyber thieves will just sell every digital piece on internet if it has any value for example your digital photos, your personal information (identity) if it is stored on it which usually is, your email passwords, your credit card or banking information and of course the device which has been stolen. The cost of device is nothing as compared to the trauma you might have to undergo if you land up in a digital cyber mess because of your "interesting photos" or misuse of your identity.
4. Do not put up any personal information in your documents. Whenever you create documents, some meta information gets embedded in your files such as computer name, user name, location of the document i.e directory name etc. Imagine if you are using your City name, your organization room and your name as computer name, directory name and user name. Armed with this info , somebody can really take on you. Also never share your vocation information on social networking sites. Coupled with a bad password . this could be quite dangerous, your digital footprints are much more valuable than you can think off. Bad people can always hack into your account or create a digital identity of you while you are on vacation and may not be accessing your public profiles. The information can be used for phishing attacks.
Scary but true : You are your own cyber enemy , if you have dumped too much of your information on social networking sites.
